There's more to the Queensland Museum than bugs in glass cases.

The Queensland Museum was founded by the Queensland Philosophical Society on 20 January 1862. Now, more than 140 years on, the Queensland Museum enriches and enlivens the cultural, social and intellectual life of all Queenslanders through its dynamic network of research facilities, regional outreach services and Museums.

The Museum’s state-wide network includes:

The Queensland Museum, South Bank Brisbane
The Workshops Rail Museum, Ipswich
Cobb+Co Museum, Toowoomba
The Museum of Tropical Queensland, Townsville
Lands, Mapping and Surveying Museum, Wooloongabba Brisbane - in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources and Mines

Queensland Museum’s Regional Services program, including the Museum Resource Centre Network, continues to be at the forefront of successful professional and community support for the Queensland collections and Museum’s sector.

Home to the world’s largest museum loans service, the Queensland Museum ensures over 5,000 objects, specimens and stories are accessible to all Queenslanders, no matter where they live within the State.

The Queensland Museum also undertakes object conservation, cutting-edge research and produces best-selling publications on Queensland’s flora, fauna and history.
